THINKING INSIDE the BOX - PATRICIA FIETTA & GEORGE LeMAITRE

Thinking outside the box is a phrase commonly used in our contemporary culture to express a creative thinking process outside the norms without limitations. This show, “Thinking Inside the Box “, focuses on what can be created within the confines of a limited space looking at things in a new way to find unique and creative solutions.

Artists LeMaitre and Fietta were inspired by artist Joseph Cornell to create a series of assemblage art pieces, all in the constraints of a framed box, in their case a cigar box sized vessel. The subject matter of each piece varies along with the materials and style used. The common thread that connects these pieces of art is the cigar box they are made in. The art created in this series presents a sometimes whimsical or irrational juxtaposition of thoughts using objects that have been either discarded or forgotten. These fragments, once beautiful, precious or unitarian in their nature are now assembled to evocate a narrative and meaning to the viewer.
