ROBOT PAINTING: an ART TREAT | Ricky Darell Barton
& 2025 UNBOUND | Alicia Canary
“Robot Paintings are created in the abstract by using a set color scheme and vocabulary. Using foreground and background painting allows color to become the principal character in the painting process, which is the conversation I wanted to have about painting when I began the series, and it thus materialized as my most recent contribution to art”. - Ricky Darell Barton
"These abstract works were specifically made very slowly using a reverse pulp painting method, which forced me to slow down and think with my hands. Each partial layer using multiple teaspoons of pulp and drained naturally for an hour before the next layer was applied. Each piece contains about 20 thin layers or partial layers of pulp.
My work uses plant and found fibers that I process into paper pulp. The main fibers are Do (a Vietnamese fiber) and flax. I have been making handmade paper since 2020 and I spent many years working with what many consider invasive plants – Japanese knotweed, garlic mustard, and honeysuckle bush." - Alicia Canary
